Pull up a chair, folks. We’ve got birthdays, an anniversary, a returning champion and some very uncomfortable cushions in the standings.
Five Main Events brought 225 entries to the felt, with five different winners. But the weekly points honors went to someone who didn’t win a tournament: Goldilox, thirteenth at Raise the Bar, fourteenth at Bravo and fourth at District added up to 113 points.
A reminder from the accounting department: they all count.
Sunday: A winning prescription for an anniversary
Raise the Bar celebrated its tenth anniversary, and 52 entries joined Tournament Director Jose Martinez for the occasion.
Dr. Zaitz supplied the championship finish, collecting 67 points a week after finishing 41st. That first Fall Main Event win lifted their venue total to 142 and eighth place. There’s a good argument for coming back next Sunday, right there.
Gil D made a first Fall visit to RTB count with second place and 61 points. Slon took third, following the previous Tuesday’s runner-up finish at Amsterdam Alley. Five final tables this season, five podiums. Slon apparently doesn’t believe in stopping halfway up the ladder.
The venue race finished with Heather B on 170, Ace Plays on 159 and Suzie Q on 158. Misdeal sits fourth on 156.
One point between second and third. Two between third and fourth. Nobody should get too comfortable.
Monday: Longshot wins, Lorraine celebrates
At Bravo Pizza & Sports Bar, I had 49 entries, a birthday celebration for Lorraine M, and some welcome help from guest TD-in-training Skippy—Anthony.
Lorraine marked the occasion with fourth place. Longshot took the championship and 64 points, earning a first Fall victory in just a second league appearance. Don Rodrigo finished second, with Trystan third.
Don’s runner-up finish moved their Bravo total from 64 to 122 points, taking over third place—only two ahead of Karen Red. Meanwhile, Kenny K reached 140, just six behind Heather’s venue-leading 146.
The birthday candles weren’t the only things generating heat at Bravo.
Tuesday: Two returns, two podium places
Over at Amsterdam Alley, Jose directed 39 entries as Keena P returned to the Felt and promptly won the tournament. The 54-point victory put Keena straight into a tie for 28th at the venue, inside the current playoff eligibility line.
The Birthday Girl also returned and finished third. That’s quite a welcome-back committee those two "Golden Girls" arranged for themselves.
Between them was Nas, whose second place delivered 48 points and the Amsterdam venue lead: 161 to Heather’s 159. Sean W holds third on 144, with Wild Bill seven behind.
Two points at the top, seven at the edge of the top three. Keep your calculator handy.
Thursday at District: Pat does it again
With Anthony Mantuano directing, 42 entries came to District, and Pat M claimed a second consecutive District title.
The 57-point victory brought Pat to three Main Event wins this Fall, first in the league’s wins rankings. Santa followed the previous week’s third place with second, while Steve Pa completed the podium.
Pat leads District with 213 points, followed by Steve on 170 and Mike Litwet 2 on 151. Goldilox’s fourth place brought their total to 148—just three behind Mike.
A weekly points title and a direct-seat position within touching distance. Goldilox had a useful week.
Thursday at Nip: Slick finishes the climb
At Nip n Tuck, Wes Petteway directed 43 entries as Slick followed the previous week’s eighth place with a first Fall Main Event victory and 58 points.
I Karla rebounded from 28th to second. No Lie took third, making consecutive final tables and closing to five points behind Misdeal for the venue’s third-place position.
A nod, too, to ECC: eighth place delivered 36 points, more than doubling the previous venue total and leaving ECC 29th, inside the top-30 playoff line. Sometimes the biggest result is the one that gives you another tournament to play.
Second Chance gets its column
The week’s Second Chance winners were Angler220 at Raise the Bar, Your Local Physics Teacher at Bravo, and Vinny The Dj at Amsterdam Alley.
Three reminders that an early Main Event exit doesn’t have to end the evening.
The numbers on my notepad
Goldilox led the week’s Main Event points race with 113, narrowly ahead of Suzie Q on 110 and Don Rodrigo on 108. Nas followed with 106, while Ayoo and Poker Den tied on 101 apiece.
Six players separated by twelve points. You didn’t need a championship to have a very good week.
Heather ended the week on 572 overall points, with Pat on 515. That’s a 57-point gap, down from 74 entering the week. Heather still has the lead; Pat’s third victory gives the chase another storyline.
Welcome to JAlb, Emc and Mtl, who put their first recorded Fall results on the board this week. There’s always room for another player in these stories.
Thanks to Jose, Anthony, Wes, Skippy, our dealers, every host venue and everyone who came out to play. And congratulations again to Raise the Bar on ten years.
Until next time, keep the cards moving—and check those standings. Some of these cushions barely qualify as upholstery.
